As a rule i get it in on dudes wit perms (not particularly fond of it on women either), but like they say there is an exception to every rule. For me that exception is Charles Bradley. His spirit is so bright, that you want to hug him, and he effortlessly shares his soul in his music. After meeting him briefly and seeing him perform, I said to myself, "His choice in a do can't be a product of self hate, can it?".
Maybe the perm has transcended it's origins, detached from the hate that produced it, encompassing the spirit of each generation that reshaped it in their need to express the said and the unsaid.
As far as I'm concerned Charles has earned his perm, he is a beautiful example of the age that produced him.

Holy shit. I am working on a post right now about being nappy since 1993.
Whether having a perm = self hate.
And how some Nappies hate themselves as well.
I'm checking for it... :)
